Marine Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency

How long is this course valid?

The MROCP and MROVCP are life-long certificates and do not require renewal.

What’s the difference between the MROCP and MROVCP courses?

The Marine Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP) includes VHF, MF and HF radios. The Marine Radio Operator’s VHF Certificate of Proficiency (MROVCP) includes VHF radios only.

Will I get a certificate?

This course is conducted under the guidelines of the Australian Maritime College, who administer the exam on behalf of the Australian Communications Authority. The assessment is sent to the Australian Maritime College where it will be marked and should you be successful, then a Certificate of Competency is issued. Should you not successful achieve the minimum pass mark of 70% then further study will be required prior to resitting the exam; another exam and assessment fee shall apply.

What do I need to bring?

You must bring one current, colour, passport-size photo of yourself (no hat, sunglasses or other obstructions). Print your full name clearly on the back of the photograph. You may like to bring a notepad and pen to take some notes. You may wish to bring a light jacket as it can get cool in the training room.

What is the address?

EHSG is located at Shop 2, Spencer House, 120 Hanson Road Gladstone. Spencer House is a large green building, located on the right hand side when travelling north along Hanson Road.

Where should I park?

Parking is limited in the Spencer House car park; however there is ample on-street parking available. Please be considerate of our neighbours and do not park in car parks which are marked for use by customers visiting neighbouring businesses.

What about lunch?

Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits are provided during all courses. Bottled water, soft drinks and chips are available for purchase. Lunch is not provided; however we provide a fridge and a microwave should you wish to bring your own lunch. There are a number of food outlets located close by the EHSG premises, and you will have plenty of time to duck out and purchase lunch during full day courses.

What should I wear?

We encourage comfortable clothes in which you can easily move. You do not need to wear your uniform unless this is a requirement of your workplace.

Can I get a receipt for tax purposes?

This is generally provided upon payment. If you require an additional copy of your receipt, don’t hesitate to contact our Administration team.

I have some special needs; can I still attend this course?

EHSG premises are wheelchair accessible. EHSG will do everything possible to cater for your individual needs. Our trainers are highly experienced at modifying training to best suit learners. Please advise us of your requirements when booking so we can ensure training meets your needs. However, you must have the ability to correctly send and receive messages by radiotelephony.

How old do you have to be to complete this course?

Students must be over the age of sixteen.
